For 28 years in the early 15th century, Chinese admiral Zheng He led seven ocean expeditions for his Ming emperor that are unparalleled in world history. Strategically the sheer size of his fleet would not be seen again until WWII and the distances covered by the expeditions were not to be repeated for decades.
